How To Install Sata & Raid Controller Driver

1 You must have an extra ATA/IDE hard drive to install LH there first.

2 Install your SATA controller drivers, but DO NOT REBOOT!!! Now your system must scan and recognize your SATA/RAID controller. Go and check it out at My Computer via right Click Manage, Device Manager, SCSI and RAID controllers. Your new disks must be there.

3 From your controller, right click Properties, select the Driver tab, and hit the Driver Details button. See what drivers are used by your controller and take the appropriate actions. For example, mine are the following:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SI3112.SYS = This is the driver that does all the work. Leave it.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SIWINACC.SYS = This just the accelerator for the controller and also the reason for the problem. DELETE IT!

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SILSUPP.CPL = This just a control panel entry. Leave it.

4. Now restart your computer and if/when you log in again, you still have your SATA or RAID controller on, then everything is okay.

5 Take a backup of your hard drive, extract it to your SATA/RAID hard drive, and you are ready! DONE!!!

I don't understand this. I have two RAID controllers in my computer (Intel and Silicon Image) and I have never had problems installing build 4074 to either one.

I tried installing Longhorn build 5048 and build 4074 on my SATA 60GB Maxtor hard drive and it would just keep freezing. Even if I installed from within Windows XP.... I was using an Intel Desktop Board D865PERL.

But like "NIKOS_LA" said, if you do that, it works fine for me! :D
