Backup Using Gpmc

Can someone confirm if using the GPMC tool to create backups would mean the back up can ONLY be used for the same domain name or can it be used to restore the backup to another domain or not?

I don't think gpo is binded with domain name, gpo is set of rules that attaches to the domain, not domain name, so I think it should be possible to import it to another domain ...
