phil_harris Posted November 21, 2002 Posted November 21, 2002 I will try to be breif as possible and include hopefully enough info to get some feedback.I have an asus a7v, athelon thunderbird 850 processor, three 256 mb ram that was originally built with win 98 installed. upgraded os to win home xp. after about 4 months of essentially trouble free bliss started having serious stops appear involving irq not equal messages. one day would not reboot becasue it couldnt find the op system (hive errors)ms support walked me thru how to restore an earlier registry to get past that. errors continue. again had the cant find os.this time did total complete wipe (reformat) and did clean install just to have a fresh start.still errors.for giggles, reduced ram to the original 256. its more stable, but occasional stop occurs... oddly enough when using internet explorer and on a web site like sportsline.com fantasy football using features that i suspect are java based. anyway...asus does not appear to have a xp update driver for the a7v kt133 im running. the IT guy at work thinks the board is just not supported for xp and therin lies my troubles.thoughts? i hate to buy a new board if its not nec.could be the other two ram cards are bad? but they worked for about a year with no prob. i clearly have an unstable system with them installed.
DMB Fan Posted November 22, 2002 Posted November 22, 2002 I have an A7V133 and the board is fine. I have had a similiar problem to yours, but mine was related to a bad application and ended wrecking my MBR. It sounds like you may be correct in that the memory modules are the cause of your problem. You should make certain that you have the newest BOIS version, 1009, and VIA drivers if need be.Also, find a quality stick of memory, made by a reputable company and slap that in to see if you problem disappears..
MSNwar Posted November 23, 2002 Posted November 23, 2002 I concur with DMB Fan. IRQ not equal to or less than etc usually points to faulty RAM. Also, a corrupt page file will cause the same error message.Since you have three sticks of RAM and have already removed two sticks and still have the same problem I would suspect that the stick of RAM you are using is a bad stick. Try the remaining two sticks, one at a time, till the problem is resolved. Be advised that all of the memory modules must be the same specification in terms of speed and architecture, i.e. SD-RAM PC 133 6 NS or to that effect. Mis-matched RAM causes the same error messages. In the case of a corrupt page file please note that the page file should be on the same hard drive in the Home Edition of Windows XP.In many cases users find that the problem is the RAM. Even if you narrow down the problem to the RAM a clean installation of Windows XP is necessary for continued trouble free use.Not all that often heat building up in the PC case will also cause the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) message that you are encountering. Last but certainly not least is Video Card drivers. Search this message board and you find long and helpful resolutions in this regard.Welcome to the board Guys.
XPerties Posted November 23, 2002 Posted November 23, 2002 very good guys and great feedback.I have had only asus boards all my life. There is no conflict with XP. There is however major conflicts with others hardware if you dont have your firmware, bios, chipset and vid drivers all updated as stated by the others. Best suggestion go to Asus Boards and tell them XPerties sent you. Youll find all the info for the latest drivers there as well as feed back on what is the best version for your board. Good luck
phil_harris Posted November 24, 2002 Author Posted November 24, 2002 Thanks guys.Im trying the asus site again for a driver update. Nervous about bios updating, but if need be I'll hold my breath and dive in.i'll play with the ram swapping. could be a heat issue too, its hot under the hood for sure. i need to burn these **** mp3s and maybe pull a hd or two thats holding them now...
