Problems With Dns

I am running Windows XP SP1 and I have recently noticed a slow down in my

general internet use. Whenever I go to a website, it always takes a very

long time to find the host, but it eventually gets there. I am experiencing

this with Firefox and IE. I am behind a NAT router with a cable modem,

another computer on the network is fine. Is it possible to somehow reset

the DNS settings? I have tried disabling TCP/ IP restarting then turning it back on, but the same problem occurs.

Thanks,

Sam

Try going to a command prompt and type 'ping www.google.com'.

Is there a slow down from there as well or is it seem pretty fast moving? the command 'tracert www.google.com' will give you some network times they should all be > 300 ms or so. ipconfig /all will give you the DNS numbers and you can ping/tracert those as well. Run Spybot, Ad-aware, & anti-virus too. You can do a free online virus scan at http://www.trendmicro.com. Search Google for Spybot & Ad-aware or get them from http://www.download.com.

What are yo using as your DNS server, your router?? an external ISP DNS server??

My own setup is my router as my primary DNS server and my ISP's DNS server as my secondary. Try setting these in your network conections and see if it makes any difference.
