Anyone knows how to control windows forewall ports through Active Directory? I want to open certain ports on all workstations ... any help is appreciated ..

I wouldn't advise using the windows firewall in a corporate enviornment. Use your internet firewall for this and disbaled the firewall service.

I would, but my security strategy requires to use both the internet and windows firewall ...

I suggest that you use something like Norton Corp. or ZoneLabs integrity for client-side security. Setting up windows firewall is hardly worth the trouble since it wont deliver that much more security.

...but if you insist...

You can control windows firewall using the group policy, as is mentioned here:

All you gatta do is open up AD, then right click the computer name, properties, policy tab, edit the policy and add the windows firewall snapin, then configure it.

1000 x thanks :D I do have other firewall, but security policy says Windows firewall MUST be enabled :wacko: so I need to find the way to open certain ports for Symantec AV (RTV Scan) and other ...
