In short, keygens, time bombs, activation circumvention, etc... are all related to acts of piracy. Software piracy is, of course, illegal.As MCT said, modifying (hacking) a few of the files that make up your copy of Windows is not illegal. You bought the software (and the license to use it), you can modify for your personal use if you like.
