Recommendations For Startup Up A Server/forum

Recommended Posts

I want to launch my own Server/Forum in the near future.

I hope that some of the more senior member with vastly more experience can lend

me a hand.

1. I would like to ask for links on the hardware and software that i will need.

2. My only requirement is that i be able to place my own ads in my forum. Not google.

3. Price is as always a consideration. So I would appreciate some different choices or alternatives.

4. I understand I can use Invision or InvisionFree or board-host.org.

5. What do u guys recommend in terms of hardware to be able to handle

2000 post a day and 50,000 min members. With a max of a 2000 people accessing

at one time.

My turn to ask the forum for help. :)

I have a question Did MSFN purchase the one time lifetime IPB?

Perpetual License ·  $185.00

This will give you a perpetual license to use Invision Power Board for one installation on all current and future versions. Selecting this option will also give you access to upgrades to the software for all future versions and one year of support is included. More Information...

wow thats such a big expectation.

max ppl who visited MSFN at one time

Most users ever online was 1061 on Yesterday, 04:20 PM

and msfn i believe eats a lof of bandwidth like maybe 100gig? xper? xperties?

so i really really do think u're flying high

start with something smaller then upgrade it

i'm on emaxhosting, have my free ipb v1 board as u know,

emax gives

100MB Storage

10GB of Bandwidth

Unlimited Spam Filters

PHP 4.3.8 + Zend

and more...

for 3.95 so i'd suggest u start with that..

**** i should read more carefully, u actually want to own a server and want ppl connect to your machine, is that right?

lots and lots of ram

dual xeon

scsi hdds

that should be enough :D but erm for 2000ppl at the same time u also need a frigging fast internet dude!!!

Thanks for the plug but with a board that busy any hosting provider will tell them they need a dedicated server. In fact we would kick you off our servers almost instant.

MSFN has less than your expectations and they run this site on a dual xeon and it's all dedicated to run MSFN. Shared hosting is not something you can expect to find for a website/forums that big.
