Firstly, you should install proper version of the SP. I highly recommend a freshly installed Windows 98 SE.Secondly, make sure that all your hardware drivers are installed and latest versions. Especially your mainboard related drivers should be installed (Intel INF, or VIA 4-in-1 etc.).
