Hosting My Own Site From Home.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I wanted to register my own domain name and also host it from my home. I have windows 2003 server. the problem is that i contacted my ISP(Sprint Broadband) and they said i couldn't have my own domain name using their service. I forgot what they told me. But is there an ISP that would allow me to do this or how would i host my own server. The primary reason is that i want to setup my own mail system and learn how this works. I found a good site called FUIDANET but they told me i have to get consent from my ISP. Any help i would greatly appreciate it.

most home ISPs have clauses that do not allow you to run a server from your service. You could try using a domain redirect service, other than that you could contact your local phone company and look into a T1, but get ready for a $500-1000 a month bill.

depends on your needs, dyndns.org, you can get an address there for free. then you need to install all your servers (i recommend apache), and all your other server stuff you need (php, mysql, ftp, pop, wtv). and then port forwarding on your router. look on google for some guides for php and apache
