keytotime Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 No, Shell32.dll is way to critical to be renamable.
Astalavista Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 let me guess you are having problems bec. of kb890047right?gsm has a fix.http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=270159try it out. I chicken out and decided to go with stardock iconpackager.i dont want to hack my new shell32 again. takes to long. And i m to lazy to do it.I just download the icons from wincustomize and use iconpackager to activate them.goood luck welcome to msfn.
clavicle Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 The moment shell32.dll gets loaded it cannot be renamed easily, but you can use the already compressed shell32.dl_ and put it in i386 directory to get the change reflected in the final installation. But the sfc has to be disabled before that. And while the windows are running you can use Replacer.cmd, a cmd file available to get the results.
Astalavista Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 clavicle i beg to differ.kb899947 comes with a new updated shell32.dlluncompressed versionif for example u hack your shell32.dl_ and put it in your i386 and u hv kb890047 in your svcpack folder. It will over writer it as soon as it is launched. I tried different methods but Gunsmokingman's method is the bestand only one available. As i said to much work for me.

Astalavista Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 u hv to ask gunsmokingman. he said it works and i trust him.read his post carefully use should be able to figure it out. it is not the process of replacing but rather i wont and dont want to hackthe shell32.dll from kb890047 took me hours before to do mine.now i just load iconpackager from stardock and change my look whenever.
clavicle Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/txtHere you can find the shell replacer.cmd, drag the old file and then drag the new file onto the cmd window and reboot to see the effects.
clavicle Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 you are absolutely right Astalavista, the shell32 of kb890047 differs and entire process gets topsy and turvy. But for a simple thing not incorporating kb890047 update either of the two methods mentioned work. Thanks a lot!!
