What is the point with ID3v2 tags, really?

and does the ipod gen3 read them?

v2 tags can hold up more info, i never liked v1 bc it wasn't enough so i had been removing all the tags. but then v2 came along and I've switched to v2.

by not enough i mean if u have a song title say like this "The Sound of San Francisco (Extended Clubhouse Edit)" this won't fit in the v1 title box. it'll read as "The Sound of San Francisco (Ex" which is stupid.

also with v2 u can add longer comments if u need to. name of the composer, copyright url etc..... many more

my creative zen xtra requires idtag so i renamed all. there is a lovely program called Tag&Rename it creates tags from file name and vice versa. so it didn't take much for me to write v2 tags to all of my mp3's..
