cucolinwin Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Hi guys, I have a dual boot system with winxp and win2000. I want to erase the win2000 patition and either combine it with the winxp partition or just leave it as another drive letter. The question is if a delete the win2000 partition will I be able to boot my system? What will happen?
horsecharles Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Hi, I would use this solution: http://www.pctechnicians.ca/help/delxpw2k.html And backup all your crucial stuff, format & reinstall... rather than merge partitions: you'd need a program such as Partition Magic, Paragon, etc., etc.... btw Merging partitions is not always totally failsafe-- though it should be.Assuming of course, that win2k is on C, and winxp is on a subsequent partition. If by chance XP is on C, then i would recommend that you NOT partition(but do format it before use), and instead migrate with TweaUI all your documents, data, settings, pictures, desktop, start, sendto, music, etc. folders; and use your multimedia, office, adobe apps to change the default data folder locations. Your system will be faster, more secure:backups & data will be safe in case the OS & or its partition gets thrashed beyond repair...good luck.
Polarman Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Why not use Partition Magic (if you have it!)Does a good job if you don't to start from scratch.
