"My Documents" in-my-face nuisance

Recommended Posts

I got the "My Documents" desktop folder out of sight but when I open Windows Explorer "My Documents" is always shown in the C drive root with all the subfolders showing. I never use the darn thing and it is not wanted there. Even if it would just close, like all other well-behaved folders, I would be happy.

Anybody know how to supress it or where I can find this info?

Oh, I only applied the "hidden" attribute to the My Documents folder, not all the subfolders. I need the subfolders to show, but I want them in the C:\...\ path like any other folder.

ok I looked through my tutorials and found this one....hope this helps...

This tweak revolves around editing the default path of Windows Explorer. Ordinarily, any time you open up windows explorer, it starts off in 'My Documents'. I'm not sure about other people, but I don't ever use 'My Documents' for anything, so it's pretty pointless. We're going to set explorer to open up My Computer instead.

1) Go to start | programs | accessories
2) Right-click Windows Explorer and open its properties
3) Change the target field from %SystemRoot%/explorer.exe to %SystemRoot%/explorer.exe /n, /e, /select, C:\

Close down any copies of explorer you have open, and the next time you open explorer it should default to 'My computer'.

Good tip. Works for me and I was getting tired of the My Documents thing to. I had shortcuts on my desktop pointing to the default Windows Explorer and needed to delete and the recreate the shortcut.

I Like that one. Thanks.

Now it opens with the My Documents folder showing but closed. One more nuisance resolved.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes I'll be around.

I hope I can contribute as well as benefit from real experts, too. MSFN looks like a great resource.
