Recycle Bin not working from desktop icon

When I click on the recycle bin the "my Computer" folder comes up...I can only get tothe recycle bin by going to the disc cleanup on system tools? I used reg mechanic recently and deleted some files,so I thought this was the problem and restored the files but still not working? :}

Greetings

I've had problems like that as well !

Don't know if System Mechanic has anything to do with YOUR incident ... but in the past if I've had wrong icons on my desktop, or double-clicking an icon brings up something DIFFERENT, the little program "TweakUI" has always sorted it out.

If you do not have thisw installed, you can get it here (free) :

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui

Make absoolutely sure you download the Windows 98 version.

Instruction on how to install it are on this site, but basically, it's not the usual way ... you have to RIGHT-click on the .inf file, and on the pop-up menu click on "Install"

A shortcut is placed in Control Panel when you want to use it.

Look for the TweakUI part that says "Repair" ... and you'll find one of the options is to sort out your icons.

BINGO! :)

You can also try to check to see if the Recycle Bin Class ID (CLSID) is still in the registry or it has been altered or removed.

Open the registry (Start>>Run>>regedit>>OK)

& check the following locations:

Yes, I hope.

Since "deedee" is sure that the problem is in the registry, then restoring the default entries to the registry may solve this mysterious problem (!).

Also, Running the Windows Registry Checker from DOS might help. This program scans the registry once a day & automatically stores backups of the Windows Registry. Restart in DOS mode & type the following:

scanreg /restore

Then choose a backup to restore & press Enter, you should be prompted to restart your computer later to complete this process.
