Data Execution Prevention DEP

Hello all.

Has anyone found a way to turn off or

disable Windows xp SP2

Data Execution Prevention "DEP"??This addition to SP2 refuses to install

or won't allow the installation of

perfectly fine software...Installable

software is available but, It's just the

principal that security without freedom

is anathema.

Eg., It would allow kav and zonealarm

installation but not mcafee 8 or 9

and some others.

It seems to me that DEP is arbitrary

and perhaps capricious

in what it will allow one to install

on one's own machine.

I do see the ability of MS to control

future software installations and

thereby control whose product you

buy. But With the MS addition of antivirus

and anti spyware soft companies...

it's not hard to see MS controlling

the future market in what will run

or not run on Windows.

Any thoughts on this?

Regards

Many thanks for your help.
I may have answered my own question from earlier about
MS Data execution protection a.k.a. Windows File Protection.
XP SP2 is a bear to work with and restricts alot of actions
away from the user.
I found this beta tool which i've not tested but, it does
hold promise for turning off SP2 restrictions via Windows File Protection
a.k.a. Data execution Prevention.

Windows File Protection Switcher 0.8 Beta

5 stars because it works as advertised...
this can permanently turn on or off
windows file protection ON WIN XP SP2,
SO YOU CAN REPAIR OR REMOVE BAD FILES, ETC.

Windows File Protection Switcher lets you disable and re-enable Windows File Protection (WFP).
