How to keep new progs from adding services/start?

Hi,

How would I monitor new programs to see if they are adding items to the registry, msconfig section, or Services.msc? I like to install new programs & usually do it on a VMWare PC (to make sure it doesnt hurt my main PC).

I am never sure if I install something if it messes with the registry from a start up perspective. Is there a good program that can tell?
