Maybe this post rather fits on the network part of the forum, but I feel it wouldn't be in its place there either as it is about unattended.

I am considering buying a Wi-Fi router as I just got a Wi-Fi capable laptop.

I also have an unattended Windows 2003 Server dvd that I use for all my computers.

Is configuring Wi-Fi unattended possible, easy or difficult ?

This would motive my choice to buy the router or not.

Any advice is welcome.

Actually, Ive inquired about this before and as I found in this thread the only answer I got for unattended setup of your wireless card (ie: joining to an available wireless network, entering SSID, etc) can only be done through group policy... which is a crummy answer.

and on a side note, i love linksys... have the G Wireless Router and all linksys nics and no issues whatsoever... not mention the linksys' wireless router firmware is based on a linux kernel so there are a ton of different firmwares you can get for it that give it many more advanced functions....

I am from asia, linksys can't go through concrete walls like surecomm can.

when i lived in chicago a linksys was fine, the walls where not solid

concrete unlike here in ASIA.

a surecomm give me greater distance at 54Mbits and no problems

when it comes to concrete walls

my 2 cents:

had a netgear, sucked balls (3 replacements, all wouldnt work). bought a linksys, and never looked back, no problems.

(but im in USA)

I have run into problems setting up netgears and linksys for people... I really like the belkin series

But overall probably linksys just because it has a better market share. (Making used ones easier to acquire as well as online support)

Back on topic:

I have had no problem installing the drivers for my wireless PCI card... And automatically joining networks... havent looked into the ssid thing, as I am reading off an open network, so as soon as windows turns on for the first time it asks if I want to connect to it, cause its open and whammo... off we go!

Right, the point is you have to manually join... doesnt do it automatically
