markok Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 Hello, all my desktop and toolbar icons disappeared? See attached a screen shot of my desktop. On desktop I only see programme descriptions but no icons. The same is true for explorer. I have ran antivirus and ad-aware with latest signatures but no spyware and/or viruses were found. Any ideas what may be wrong?Thank you, Marko
raza Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 hey can u explain in detail what u were doing when these icons n everthing disappeared
markok Posted December 25, 2004 Author Posted December 25, 2004 hi, this happened during remote programme installation (java applet was running). computer hanged up and after reboot all the icons were gone? huh... if i boot in safe mode the problem remains the same. but if i change user i.e. log-in under different user name then everything is o.k. - icons are back. this may be (my last) option how to solve the problem... but will take me quite some time to re-arrange and transfer all the settings to the new user.any ideas?
markok Posted December 25, 2004 Author Posted December 25, 2004 Just solved the problem with "TuneUP WinStyler" !!TuneUP WinStyler
SiMoNsAyS Posted December 25, 2004 Posted December 25, 2004 quite funny well you just need to rebuild your icon cache, there are several programs that can do it, f.e. the powertoy tweakui or iconpackager (dunno about TuneUP WinStyler)
markok Posted December 25, 2004 Author Posted December 25, 2004 yeahhh... really funny... however it was quite annoying and i am glad the problem is fixed!! by the way TWEAKUI was my first chioce but did not help.
