Hello all

Since i don't like to use repackaged version (I want to control my stuff and know what's inside) i decided to spent some time on Acrobat Reader 7

Ok first of all would like to let you know that there is a msi version

Just let the installer go, then go to your c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7 setup (something like that)

Then you got ur MSI.

Then add the traditionnal /qn to get unattended

Ok this part is ok for me

Now i want to suppress the shortcut

Anyone has the swtiches to delete them

Tried using ORCA but havent found them

Thank you!

Using Orca,

Go to the Shortcut Table, all 3 are listed there.

Just right click on each one and select Drop Row.

Then resave your msi.

Yup i tried with ORCA to get the property name, and got them....

But i don't want to modify my MSI

Did you try the Installshield Tuner for Acrobat?

I have not used it since I own a full blown MSI editor, but

I know it creates transforms. And transforms can be used to supress the shortcuts without modifying the original MSI.

That is how I deployed it here at the office. Used a transform to set everything I needed.

Actually, The Installshield Tuner for Acrobat v7 is available now.

Check here:

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2709

And it does give the option to remove the shortcuts in the Transform.

The MSI Editors I use are Wise Package Studio 5.51,

and Installshield AdminStudio 6.0 Value Pack1

As for free MSI Editors, you might try WinInstall LE 2003

I've never used it, but I've heard lots of people here give good reviews ot it.

I decided to have a go at making my second unattended disc today, and so I just copied the OEM folders and batch.cmd file from my first disc into the folders for my new disc. For my first disc, Adobe Reader 7 installed perfectly using:

start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Applications\Adobe\AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe -q /s /v/qn

I simply copied and pasted the lines from my first batch file into this new one and proceeded to carry on adding the new stuff to it. However, after getting it installed with VMWare, on every startup with the new XP disc I get this rather annoying message:

This application failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I don't know if it helps or not but with each disc I make I always put it through nLite beforehand and reduce it big time. I did the same with my new disc and have made it slightly smaller, do you think there could be any chance that the error I'm getting is linked to something I may have removed with nLite?

  • 1 year later...
Run the executable until all files are extracted, then go to Program Files and locate the .msi and .cab files. Use these for the unattended install. Use the .msi file /QB switch.

Thanks  lookin for this tip loooong time...
