Flintstone Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 I have managed to do everything I want with my unattended installation except to give the Internet Explorer toolbar Small Icons and No Text.Has anybody been able to do this successfully?
Astalavista Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 apparently u dont know this but... I.E. SUCKS!!!how about u try firefox.click on my sig and join the 20 million other people that are using it.
Astalavista Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 well if u download the default theme of course it is going to look like the S word.but if u add some themes and extensions. move this there and here and there. your good to go.click on my sig to see my special firefox settings
Flintstone Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 Hi Astalavista,Funny but I am already one of the 20 million who prefer Firefox (I am used to Mozilla because of my Linux boxes). The reason I want to do this with IE and not Firefox is because I need to build totally clean PCs for testing freshly packaged software. Because the PCs need to be totally clean I can not use any third party apps or even have a normal user log into the system (I need to use the Admin account only). It would just be much more convenient if IE had small icons and no text labels but it seems like nobody can work out how to do it.Surely somebody has the knowhow?
Astalavista Posted December 22, 2004 Posted December 22, 2004 Actually the answer is quite simpleall u need to do is take a regsnap of your registry before and after u make the change.that is what most of us do here. Google for Regsnap there is a trial version and a freeware version u can download.the program basically compares before and after of your registry.you hv to have a keen eye to spot which keys are relevant and whichare not.mostly the key will be i.e. shell. but i am not to sure. SinceI dont use I.E. anymore.good luck and welcome to MSFN. be sure to check out some of my linkson my sig. especially the top one. HEHEHE self promotion to the max
Flintstone Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 I like the links, they are useful. I like regsnap, a useful little utility I have not use for a couple of years It works when running it from the Desktop so it should work just fine for the unassisted install. Thanks Astalavista for your help.Fred
Flintstone Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 I used all the registry changes produced by regsnap (No files were changed). All my other regtweaks work and IE comes up with no text in the IE Toolbar without any problem so the settings are imported into the registry. For some reason the icons are still large though.Strangely, the registry tweak works perfectly when merged manually (double-clicking on it).mmm ... I am stumped on this one.
Astalavista Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 u must apply the regtweak before first logon to windows
big poppa pump Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 Small icons will work only after the 2nd reboot. Small icons will work only after the desktop is initialized and loaded for the first time. This is how I do mine1) Install Video, Audio, Print Server Drivers. Reboot!2) Install most of the applications and import all the HKLM, HKU and some HKCU registry tweaks. Reboot!3) Install couple of apps, a few more registry tweaks including tweak for small icons. Install network printer and do the final cleanup where apps are moved to custom folder lists. Change the CD drive letters, rename Administrator to custom user name and a final Reboot!
big poppa pump Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 Nope! about 500kb of registry tweaks.
