MCT Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 edit boot.ini (open the file in notepad) make sure its not "read only" delete the line make sure u know what 1 it is or u wont be able 2 boot to your good OS
Cartoonite Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 You can get rid of it by editing boot.ini in the root of your system drive.[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptInThis is what mine looks like. It is a single-boot system. Just make sure you delete the right one (the broken link) from the [operating systems] section, or you won't be able to boot at all.If your re-install was fairly recent, you may be better off just reformatting and re-installing again, just to be sure you clean up any files left over from the aborted installation.Edit: And MCT beats me to the punch. I knew I needed to learn to type faster...
mark Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 You guys have given me the same info and it was a big help. I also would like to change the default boot OS but it sticks with the last one loaded (with Windows anyway). I have changed the order in which they are listed in boot.ini but to no effect. Any ideas?
prathapml Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 I have changed the order in which they are listed in boot.ini but to no effect.Maybe you tried it, but just for good measure I'll say it:default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWSIs the line you want to look into. Change it to the one that you want to be default.
