keytotime Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 add this to a reg fileWindows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools]"MydoomTool"="OK"[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell]Then my windows update will no longer prompt for mydoom removal tool.As an inf[Version]signature="$CHICAGO$"[DefaultInstall]AddReg=mydoom.ADDregDelReg=mydoom.DELREG[Mydoom.AddReg]HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools","MydoomTool",0,"OK"[Mydoom.DelReg]HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell"
RyanVM Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 Have you actually tested that? My result with that registry entry is that WindowsUpdate still wants to install it.
keytotime Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 I tested it out and it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tsunami Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellThis key doesn't exist on my system? (XP SP2 NL)
Acheron Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 No, I haven't seen the MyDoom removal tool on Dutch Windows Update whatsoever. Anybody else can confirm this?
Shark007 Posted December 19, 2004 Posted December 19, 2004 I have never seen the doom removal tool either..that is, until the latest round of MS updates.anyway, upon going to windowsupdate, i see the tool.i dont download it. i instead, create a reg file as suggested in the 1st post here.i install the reg file and i reboot.upon returning to windows update, the tool is no longer offerred.my experience.sharky
RyanVM Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellThis key doesn't exist on my system? (XP SP2 NL) That's probably why it isn't showing for Dutch users.I can confirm that the solution keytotime posted works.
cybpsych Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 tried the solution and it's *working!!* kudos!oh btw, i omittted this line in the registry file ...[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell]
cybpsych Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 ok, did a VM installation above ... still shows the dreaded tool re-edit my regtweak.reg to include this back:[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell]*UPDATE* After included the line above, the tool was not detected by WU! No harm done
