Is there a way I can change the sound in my XP, so when it starts up it plays something else?

sounds tab,it's in there under "start windows"

Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices.

On the Sounds tab scroll down the Program Events menu to Start Windows and highlight it.

Change the sound from the Sounds drop down menu,or click Browse to find an alternative.Click apply.
