basic file sharing help

im a networking novice & am trying 2 share a few folders & internet connection

the connection works, but the pcs dont "see" each other, they ONLY share internet

how can i share my "music" folder? i right clicked, sharing tab, & selected sharing for the file , but i cant see it in the other pc

Also try to connect manualy to the hosting computer:

Click Start --> Run --> \\Computername\C$

Computername can also be the ip adress of the hosting computer.

Replace C$ if your music folder is on another drive.

It's gonna ask you for a password. (I hope, otherwise it's not well protected) Because C$ is an administrative share, you will have to enter the password of an administrator group member.

If this is working, you should be able to map your share. From an explorer windows go to tools --> Map network drive.

that works, thanks :D i can see the other pc doing

what is the shell command for "map network drive" ive cut down my "tools" menu & never thought id need this, cuz i didnt plan on doing this lol :blushing:

edit: never mind, i found it

EDIT2: i can send files to & from my pc to the other 1 now, & ive created mapped drives, but i still dont have "shared folders" :no:

Try this, it may not work but worth a try (if NetBios isnt already installed)

goto control panel >> Network Connections

select your network connection and right click >> properties

click "install" under general tab

select any application with the name of NetBios

click add, and install it using the following setup program

you may need to restart your computer

install this on all computers you want file + printer sharing for
