winnt.sif problem

Hi, I`m new to all this and I`m trying to make an unattended slipstream sp1 disk.

I want nothing extra on it. (Yet)

I made this file and put it in the I386 folder and used imagepro, then burnt it.

But when i used it it kept asking me for locale, xp number etc.

Can anybody tell me where I went wrong please.

Do you have to put the unattended dos batch file in as well?

The command script is for something else entirely, don't use.

Everything looks kosher to me...

You filled out everything that the Support Tools program told you to?

most common issues:

file NOT in I386 folder

file NOT named winnt.sif (common mistake is winnt.sif.txt)

work around test by copying file to a floppy, boot from cd and quickly insert floppy... it will look to the floppy as well as I386 for winnt.sif.

it is easier than burning CD after CD testing the file

A better method would be to install VMWare and test ISOs thereabouts...

But yah, you can easily find out whether things are named correctly.

Go to the command prompt (run -> cmd) and type in dir C:\XPCD\i386\winnt.* (or wherever you've stored your happy little XP CD (you know, before turning it into an ISO or into a CD)

You should see winnt.sif. If you don't, you've found your problem.

Thanks everybody for your help,yea you were right Microsofts little proggy saved it as a text file.

Well here we go again, if it works I think I`ll get a bit more adventurous with my next one. hehehe

Please, use VMWare and burn your OS installation to an ISO. You'll save a LOT of frustration.

Then pick up a 250 pack of blank CDs and a 50 pack of blank DVDs.

Works a treat. Faster than burning a DVD or CD and uses your HD so faster installations too. Simple as, doesn't mess up your computer if the ISO doesnt work and so much more control than a real installation too. You can't go wrong.

Right I`ve installed VMWare, Pointed it to my ISO all works fine till i press a key either to install windows or delete partion.

Anybody know where I`m going wrong.
