so after the removing of ie, you lose AD.. something i'd prefer not to have happen (i hate icons >.>)

so.

1: is there a way to rip it out and install just that?

2: if no, is there a program (that isn't a complete shell replacement) that'll let me do the same thing?

try removing IE with nlite & leaving the core, this should work ok.. then if it does, u can try with removing the core too
