tomherbst Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 I bought a legal OEM copy of XP MCE 2005 to play with the TV stuffand right in the middle of the install (a few minutes after it requestsCD 2), it asks for XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD to be put in.I don't have the CD. The first time I tried this, I cancelled out and ended up with a brain damagedinstall. No networking or IE, for example. At first I just thought itwas the ASUS/3COM GigE driver, but adding the driver made it see theinterface, but it didn't have TCP/IP associated with it. After this I tried burning the .exe XP SP2 distribution and installing thaton the machine. This did install a bunch of stuff, but the brain damageseemed to be the same.Could someone point me to a downloadable XP SP2 .iso so I can burn that?thanks -tom
Drewdatrip Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 You can order it driectly from MS HEREIt says that it will take upto 2weeks or somthing like that...but i got mine in a few days.|Drew|
SovereignScorn Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Well, I dont think we can share ISOs here, but what you can try to do is download SP2 from microsoft, save it to something like C:\sp2\SP2.exe, then go to the run dialog and run c:\sp2\sp2.exe /u: /x:c:\sp2\filesAfter that, burn a cd with the i386 folder in it. That sould solve your problem.Or possibly, just put youre first cd back in...

tomherbst Posted November 24, 2004 Author Posted November 24, 2004 tomherbst...XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is CD1..CD1 includes Windows XP Professional with integrated SP2.. CD2 includes only CMPNENTS folder..Thanks for the help, I have it up and running now.On ordering from MS - the web page says 4-6 weeks. Even if it was justa couple of days, the time I have to play with this is over the holiday. Orderingwas a last resort. On unpacking the files - thanks, I thought there might be a trick like that - I didunpack it and build a CD.That said, while it took a bunch of files from the CD I built, some were notpackaged the same and in the end I guessed and put CD1 back in (before thepost explaining that) and it did work.thanks again!tom
