VCR to DVD

Hi,

I'm trying to convert all my mom's collection (VCR) to DVD. I have a problem here.

First, the whole process is extremely slow, it took me about 5-6 hrs to convert the avi file (captured with my hardware decoder card) to DVD. Is that suppose to be that long. I tried on both of my P4 and AMD system. Is doesn't make a big difference. What can I do to make the process faster? Do I really have to buy some SCSI hard drives and setup raid?

I'm also test driving the new Windows XP 64-Bit Edition. Is that going to make any difference, I can't really try it on the 64-Bit Windows right now. I can't find the driver for my Audigy. I know AMD is weaker on Video Editing. Any Idea.

I'm doing this on my ATI All-In-Wonder card, it captures and encodes MPEG-2 video. There are some (relatively) inexpensive commercial softwares to take captures to DVD...However, I was pretty much broke after buying the card. So, I went cheap:

• I use TMPGEnc to edit/demux the MPG,
  
• IfoEdit to create DVD file structure,
  
• ImgTool Classic to create an ISO,
  
• and finally DVD Shrink and
  
• DVD Decrypter to shrink and burn.
  

It takes my (the length of the video to capture) + about 1/2 hour to completely process and burn to DVD on my P4-2.4c, 1GB DC-DDR400, single SATA-HDD machine.

The only other advice I can offer is to always defrag before capturing and/or editing DVDs.

here is what we did with our VCR tapes

we connected our VCD to our Sony Video 8

sony video 8 >>>> firewire cable >>> firewire card >>> software

Pinnacle 9.3 plus >>> output DVD copy.
