Hi!

Anyone who knows which IP-addresses to statically set in the HOSTS-file on a win2000client, to be able to access and use windowsupdate. When it is not possible to use DNS or proxy..

Have tried these without luck:

(With these, the main page is showing, but I'm getting a "Windows Update error" displayed on the site. As if there are som items on the site it can't reach/find)

Im a bit confused.

If your PC has a default gateway set that will allow it to access the internet, then it will be able to query a DNS server, why cant you use DNS?

If you really cant use DNS, my only suggestion would be to monitor netstat (start - run - cmd - netstat) during a windows update and see what hosts its communicating with

The setup is in a complex WAN, where several subnet's are not using DNS, for different reasons. Where 'official' adresses, like winupdate, are needed to be statically set. External dns-queries is and shall not be possible from those clients.

As pointet out last time, the clients are able to access the _main_ site, but not able to click any further. Can't come up with the exact message right now, as I'm not sitting in that networkenvironment at the time. Will post the presise message later on, perhaps monday. Will also post this on a windowsupdate newsgroup..
