red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Try here, it might be of help.http://www.talkroot.com/archive/topic/20373-1.html
ner Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 Thanks red_house for that information,However does anyone know the best way to check a CD/DVD Drive????, as the above link is only applicable to Hard Drives.
red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Try in device manager. I notice the term USB2, is it an external R/W ?
red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 Are you using it on a USB hub. Some USB2 devices (I'm thinking scanners and Modems here but external R/Ws may be the same) don't like hubs as they aren't able to draw sufficient power from them. Use Device Manager to check your USB ports. Also use Device Manager to check for any hardware conflicts - look for the little yellow exclamation mark.
ner Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 red_houseAh, I do have it connected through a powered USB2 hub, and all looks ok in the Device manager, no yellow exclamation marks shown.
red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I should have asked this first. Did the R/W work, regardless of the error message or was it a case of belly up.?
red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 And, have you checked DVD/CD ROM drives in Device Manager?
ner Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 The Drive went very slow, and stopped -installing the program
red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I'm not very sure of this but, the slowing down suggests that it's not able to draw sufficient power. Have you tried a direct connection tothe computer's USB rather than the hub?
ner Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 I'll try it connected directly to the computer, thanks anyway,
red_house Posted November 4, 2004 Posted November 4, 2004 I've been to the M$ site - http://search.microsoft.com/search/results...s&qu=event+ID+7and the second item on the list suggests that it may be an out of date driver. Check out the link as you will recognise, better than I, whether or not your situation is similar to anything mentioned in the articles. The second article on the list looks the most promising for your situation. These are all "Event ID 7s".
ner Posted November 4, 2004 Author Posted November 4, 2004 Thanks for the link, does not really help me out. I will connect the drive direct to the computer, and test and go from there.cheers for yo9ur help...
