Hi,

Hav recently bought a Toshiba 1620CDS, 2nd user. It has winXP installed. The problem is it will NOT boot on Battery power alone !? It starts to boot, it gets to where Win XP logo appears and the status indicator moves across the screen but stops 3/4 the way along and it just sits there. It boots ok with the AC adapter attached. any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

Yes, the laptop runs as normal on either battery or mains !, it just will not actually complete the boot process on battery power ?

first check your bios settings.

if u don't know how to go into your bios, check your manual.

in your bios there should be a setting for Adavance Power Management

tinker with it.

my friend who has a toshiba laptop had a similar problem. i fixed it for her

but i can't remember what i did.

Is your battery old? My battery stopped functioning after about 5 years... I had to get a new one and now it works great! :) My laptop is 6 years old and also has XP! :)

I share jomage's pain.

I am in the same situation as you. I've looked everywhere for such problem

to no avail, then I got my hands dirty and went looking for the root of the evil.

I found it (I think), but can't fix it (I'm sure).

jomage, start your pc on battery, let it hang,

restart the pc with ac power and go check the system logs.

Is there any message regarding acpiec at time on the system's hang?

If so, we have the same problem. I've upgraded the bios, but it is the same.

I GOT IT!!!!

1620CDS Windows XP bootable!

After upgrading the bios to 1.08A (Do not know if it is mandatory),

I entered setup and disbled the serial and paralel ports.

In power management (or something like that) i left it in User Setting,

with the processor in full speed and disabled all timers below.

VOILA!!!

I feel good!!! :thumbup
