i downloaded & tested it on vmware, this works 4 me

start /wait vlc-0.7.2-win32.exe /S

Yep MCT is right. I just tried the other day and /S works for VLC Media Player. Make sure it's captial /S not /s. Maybe that's why it doesn't work for you.
