One suggestion just because I am spoiled to it. When you do a search to view new posts, having a link to "mark all posts as read" at the bottom (or wherever) of the search results page is a nice time saver. When the site gets really busy and you have to go back to the main page to mark as read, there is more of a possibility of a new post (or more) being submitted before you mark as read.
