edmoncu
@moo: KB835935 is WindowsXP SP2. the WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe file is the XP2 RTM redistributable.@ran: perhaps you're talking about, sfc /scannow > missingfiles.txt. i dunno if it will work here since this only works with some non-gui-based apps. ran
You know, I'm thinking it may not be as bad as we think...Keep in mind that the dll cache does not contain *all* the dll files that windows uses...so, could we be prompted for this simply because it can't find the copy in the dllcache? edmoncu
i dunno bout that, but this method requires the XPCD to be in the drive while the scanning is processed.
TheRealMethusela
Make sure you are not using the Registry key to unload cached .dll's because when Windows File Protection checks it has to load them.ie: Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL CacheInsert your Windows XP Professional CD-ROM now.
