Readiosys Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 Hi,I have a dynamic ip client installed on my router because my ip is dynamic...I would like to use something like 'Home' as the host name rather than xxx.dynip.com for example, which is much longer.I tried using hosts and lmhosts files but it does not seem to work.Is it possible, and if so, how ?Thanks.
CoffeeFiend Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 The host file is only for the one PC it's installed onto. It won't do others any good. They'll still have to use your dynip no matter what.
Readiosys Posted October 17, 2004 Author Posted October 17, 2004 I know, and it is not a problem as I will install the hosts file (or whatever is required to achieve this) to both my home and office PC.The problem is that the hosts file does not allow hostnames to hostnames, but only hostnames to ip conversion, which is not very useful because my ip changes everytime...Thanks anyway.
