I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to use my broadband modem with nat in server 2003. i have 9 comps and 1 server on the network. i have ICS setup at the moment, but need my ip addersses static. does anyone know how to do this?

I can setup NAT no problems with NIC connections but not with one NIC and a ADSL modem. pls help

You would need two nics in the server to pull this off, but it can be done.

With routers as cheap as they now are, you would be far better off simply running a router. Allow the router to handle nat. This also solves the problem of the IP addressing.

Considering how few systems you are running, I would not use dhcp. Just assign static class c addresses to all of the systems. This will keep your configuration very clean and easy to manage. Unless you are planning to run Active Directory it would also be possible to not have a local dns server.

The whole idea is to keep the network as simple as possible. For under 100.00 you could certainly make life easy for yourself.

Im not runnin dhcp or AD, think i will just buy a router would make life easier in this scenario been tryin to config this all day sill no joy.

Unless you got specific needs, a router is definately a good alternative. Plug everything, spend a couple minutes to configure it, and everything works. I've seen some cheap DLink DI-604 for like 20$, I've setup many friends like that and they're quite happy about it. For most people, it's the easy, hassle free solution.
