DirectX 9.0c Installation problem

I am currently trying to install DirectX 9.0c so that I may play Sims 2, but there is a problem. When trying to install it with Sims 2 (mind you I get the same errors when trying to install with Sims and with the direct download of DirectX 9.0c), it stops at extracting dsound.dll and comes up with an error "An internal error occured. Please refer to directx.log in your windows folder to determine problem".

So, I try installing with a direct download of DirectX, I get the same error message though, and it stops at extracting dsound.vxd.

What should I do? How do I remedy this problem? Any help is much appreciated.

It probably doesn't have anything to do with it and I am sorry if it is in the wrong section, i just did a search to see if my question was answered and most of the DirectX questions where located here. Again, sorry if it is in the wrong section.

If you have SP2 installed, DirectX9c should already be installed.

If you don't have SP2 installed, do it

At first, it couldn't install with Error Code: 80070002, then it would try to verify then fail not even half-way into it with the same error code. I checked it out to see what to do about it, but it said to keep trying. As I said before, I have been trying for over 3 hours now.

When are you getting that message?

Are you using the express install and getting it when you try to download the files? Or are you getting it when it tries to copy the files? If it's the former, send me an IM (info's in my profile) and I can send you the network installer.

I get the message after it fails (which is now 12 green bars into it verifying the download) and I click on installation history. I click Fail in there and it tells me then. Other then that I just get a box that says updates were unsuccessfull.

Yes, I am using the express install. I used the custom and it did the same thing. I only made it to it copying the files the first time I tried, then it failed and started doing this crap with the verifying download.

It seems to me like my problems are coming from dsound.vxd and dsound.dll. Depending on what I try to install it from (dsound.vxd from the DirectX download and dsound.dll from The Sims 2 DirectX).

Sounds to me like you've got a sick computer. You sure it's virus/spyware free? I swear I remember hearing about a recent spyware app which prevented people from installing SP2 on their systems.

I will scan to make sure. I know I have some spyware on my computer, so that may be it. I just hate using my scanner because last time I used it, somehow my TCP/IP files got corrupted and had to sit on the phone for 2 hours trying to figure out how to fix it with the tech guys. I will try it though and will get back to you.

Scanned with AdAware. Deleted over 500 files. Tried installing again. Same thing happened. Still failed and all that .

Run both Spybot and AdAware IN SAFE MODE (I can't stress that enough). There are many different spyware apps that can't be removed by scanners when Windows is in normal operation.

The log you posted above, gives the impression one of the CABs could not be iterated, (maybe due to corrupted file). Could you try re-downloading dX 9C, and then install it, and tell us whether it succeeds this time?

(forget about SP2 for now, let's deal with dX9c alone)

I have tried everything. I will try re-downloading it, but I doubt it will work. I am thinking it has something to do with dsound.dll and the dsound.vxd. I have even tried uninstalling DirectX with DirectX Eradicator, but it didn't help.
