inakyle Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I'm trying to install drivers for a USB port but keeps giving me the following error:This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the driversrequired for this device. (Code 31)Click Troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter for this device. The code refers to CD Rom but I'm trying to install a USB portWhat can I do???
Sparky1 Posted October 4, 2004 Posted October 4, 2004 Do all the windows updates, especially SP4, as far as I know USB is supported natively by windows 2000. Make sure all your motherboard drivers are installed too.
MadGutts Posted October 6, 2004 Posted October 6, 2004 I am asuming the Device drivers are not loaded for the USB Ports themselves, not any devices plugged into them?Start by unplugging the USB devices (if there are any) including internal ones!Remove the device from the hardware managerRestart and let the pc auto-detect the new hardware - watch the install process and it will flash up the type of USB i.e. generic USB controller. If it asks for the drivers for this then insert the CD, if not once it has installed the hardware double check the device in the harware manager. If the usb still isn't working, see if the manufacturers web site has updated drivers.Hope this helps, it certainly sounds like a driver issue. If not, please put the make and model of your motherboard on here. If it is a USB riser card, then try driverguide.com
