Setupldr.bin of SP2 and Multiboot CD-DVD

Hi,

I only would ask you if there are others having Problems with Multiboot CD-DVD and Windows XP Home/Prof./Corp. "INCLUDING SERVICE PACK 2".

There are several other possibilities which do not function too, like:

BCDW [bOOTABLE CD WIZARD] http://bootcd.narod.ru/index_e.htm

or

http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-cre...multi-os-cd.htm

I think all have a PROBLEM with SETUPLDR.BIN of WinXP SP2.

The chosen System in the Boot_Menu isn't installed, but the System is

REBOOTED!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there already a solution for this Problem?????

Thanks.

I would like to help solving this Problem

Its been about a month since I slip-streamed SP2 into my WinXP, and made a multi-boot of the CD. Through all the constant changing of the install, and adding/removing things in it, I haven't found any difference in how a multi-boot with/without SP2 works.

Everything works the same way WITH SP2 files, as it used to with SP1.

Possibly user error? You might want to read the stickied thread in this Multi-boot section. Following the multi-boot maker guide, you will have a properly done disc. Do post back on any problems you encounter, help is always here. :)

I have wasted 200hres testing this Multiboot CD-DVD, always with the same result:

REBOOT instead of installing the chosen item.

read this thread - http://bootcd.narod.ru/index_e.htm - there is written in RED

that WINXP SP2 has a problem with SETUPLDR.BIN

same problem with MagicISO

http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/miso-cre...multi-os-cd.htm

I studied the guide - multi-boot maker guide - http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com/ - you proposed here and he is applying the same technique to create a Multi-boot CD

so, same problem!!

OR can you pretend that you have tested it with WINXP SP2 without any PROBLEM??

Thank you very much for your prompt answer

Most boot loaders (ISOLinux, cdshell, etc...) seem to use the cd-rom boot sector from a windows CD to kick off the boot process. With SP2 that works fine, there is no difference. You hex-edit the same files as before and everything works. If BCDW loads the setupldr.bin directly I guess it could have some issues. I don't see why it wouldn't use the normal setup sequence of xpboot.bin -> setupldr.bin -> txtsetup.sif to start.

Cheers

FLyakite's site uses a different method, and CDShell has no problem with loading it. He uses SETUPLDR.BIN in conjuction with a sepereate boot folder.

My Multiboot DVD works with this method. I HAVE tested it, and HAVE installed from this DVD on a couple systems. It does work.

If you load SETUPLDR.BIN directly BCDW doesn't know where to start like it did with SP1, which is why calling the BOOTSECTOR of the original XP CD (albeit modified) which then calls SETUPLDR.BIN works, as it's the original mechanism used to get the setup going.

Have also tested here. Only just recently got around to adding my SP2 (pre)installs to my multi-boot disc, though. But they work fine.

Note that on the link you provided, he specifically said:

Warning!

Loading of SETUPLDR.BIN from WinXP SP2 is not supported by current version of BCDW.

This doesn't mean you can't use the xp boot loader, just that you can't use setupldr.bin. Do it like Alanoll and the guide on flyakite.msfnhosting.com say, and it should work fine.
