ceez Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Zup peeps,As some of you might know, if you boot up with a systemworks or nortonAV cd it prompts to do a virus scan in DOS mode. My question is how can I use that feature with an updated virus definition?!?!thkz
prathapml Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 There must be a VirusDefs directory on CD, or the boot-sector is a floppy-image (.img) that contains the virdefs as a CAB file. Tell us how you did it!
ceez Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 thkz for the reply prathapml, but how exactly would i do this? Can someone explain
prathapml Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Search the entire CD if there's any folder anywhere spelt "VirusDefs" or something like that.Or, make an ISO-image of the CD (using UltraISO or something), and extract the boot-sector. Rename the extracted boot-sector to have a .img extension, and this file will normally be approx. 2 MB. Open this (floppy-bootable-image) in WinImage, and look for a VirusDefs folder, or a .CAB compressed file - in both cases, the definitions will be in a few files with .DAT extension.Hoping this helps....
