Hello All

I have just baught a new maxtor 200Gb hard drive. but when i went to format it reported to be only 130Gb. My bios can see it and reports it as 200gb but windows 2k pro cannot. :realmad:

I have found a MS Kb article that references a Reg hack in XP Sp1.... But not for W2kSp4.

My questions are:

Has anyone else had this problem?

Has the reg hack worked in XP?

Would the same reg hack work in 2k?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... :thumbup

Thanks in advance

There's an MSKB article that describes this.

You need to install Win2k, then some reg-mod then the SP4 to see large drives of more than 137 GB. The best solution to this is to slip-stream SP4 into your win2k CD - then it is supported perfectly.

I personally don't like those tools - they are drive overlays.

Can cause distortion in partitioning and all that.....

Just merge SP4 - gotta work straightaway with no problems.

I have already installed sp4... Should i remove it?

Or can i apply the MS patch after sp4 ?

Slip-stream SP4 into your win2k CD, then format-reinstall, enjoy!

Sorted...

Win 2k and Sp4 Don't accept over 128Gb drives until you regedit a 48bit LBA switch

Once that is done, and a restart the drive appears in all its wondefully empty Bliss!

Oh Joy!

Thanx Guys
