MadGutts Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Hello AllI have just baught a new maxtor 200Gb hard drive. but when i went to format it reported to be only 130Gb. My bios can see it and reports it as 200gb but windows 2k pro cannot. I have found a MS Kb article that references a Reg hack in XP Sp1.... But not for W2kSp4. My questions are:Has anyone else had this problem? Has the reg hack worked in XP? Would the same reg hack work in 2k?Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance Mad
prathapml Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 There's an MSKB article that describes this. You need to install Win2k, then some reg-mod then the SP4 to see large drives of more than 137 GB. The best solution to this is to slip-stream SP4 into your win2k CD - then it is supported perfectly.
MadGutts Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 I have yet to build a unattended cd... but for now...I have found this link on another forum:Maxtor BIG Drive EnablerI havent tried it yet, but i will let you know if its the ticket...
prathapml Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I personally don't like those tools - they are drive overlays. Can cause distortion in partitioning and all that.....Just merge SP4 - gotta work straightaway with no problems.
MadGutts Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 You need to install Win2k, then some reg-mod then the SP4 to see large drives of more than 137 GB.I have already installed sp4... Should i remove it?Or can i apply the MS patch after sp4 ?
Jito463 Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Mad: Is this your primary HDD or your secondary?

MadGutts Posted September 30, 2004 Author Posted September 30, 2004 Sorted...Win 2k and Sp4 Don't accept over 128Gb drives until you regedit a 48bit LBA switchOnce that is done, and a restart the drive appears in all its wondefully empty Bliss!Oh Joy!Thanx Guys
