f9cator Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Hi, does anyone knows what is the IP address of www.msfn.org. I am unable to access from my home PC. It keeps saying can't find page. I suspect it could be due to some DNS problem. So maybe if I include the IP address of www.msfn.org in the host file, my problem can be solved.
f9cator Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 69.93.148.85Thanks for your quick reply.
XPerties Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 For future reference you can always run a DNS check on any website to get the ip here:http://www.dnsstuff.com/
DarkPhoenix Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 And, to check if the problem really is DNS related, just do a "ping www.msfn.com" from a command prompt.
gabriel_buc Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 A bit off topic question: When I load the MSFN forum in the status bar of Opera appears that it's loading page www.longhorn.hu. Any idea why is that ?
XtremeMaC Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 yes I see that too. I believe its an ad company or something like that.. though just checked the website I cannot see any relation with ms longhorn
prathapml Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 So I'm not the only one noticing that. The page, it seems makes a splash at that address (maybe a page-hit counter) on every page-load.You can take a look at the default style-sheet for the forums (right-click, view source). This is what is causing what you see:<br /><div align="center"><script type="text/javascript"><!--google_ad_client = "pub-9597915216280083";google_ad_width = 728;google_ad_height = 90;google_ad_format = "728x90_as";google_color_border = "336699";google_color_bg = "FFFFFF";google_color_link = "0000FF";google_color_url = "008000";google_color_text = "000000";//--></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js"></script><script src='http://www.longhorn.nu/astracker/ast.php?ch=2'></script> If this is against rules to see the source code, my apologies and please delete this post.
f9cator Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 I am still not able to access www.msfn.org. Below is what I get when I did a tracert to www.msfn.org. prathapml Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I guess you are posting the above from some other machine. Your tracert output seems to indicate that the connection between your ISP (or top-level server) and the one connecting MSFN is broken in some way. That kind of thing had happened lastly for someone in europe when the optical-fibre pipe connecting their ISP to the US had a fault.

I can actually live with it, however when accessing http://unattended.msfn.org/index.htm, the top menu of the page didn't show. I suspect the proxy site disable the script to be loaded preperly.Should I call my ISP provider to inform them about this? I have checked with some other friends who is using the broadband service provided by the same ISP but they have no problem. I am really lost here.f9cator
prathapml Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 What you said (above) sort of confirms what I was already thinking. Some break-down or maintenance work happening on the OFC pipe...Yes, calling up your ISP is a good idea - if they are polite enough, they might tell you a reason.

Thanks again for the advice.

Just out of curiosity can you reach http://www.emaxhosting.com from the same machine?
