Hi guys,

I tried to install Office xp sp2 on client computers on my network and client computers were created from clone pc. On this pc, office was istalled from original cd. Now, when I try to install service pack on one of client computer, error message displayed and installation wants original CD. Is it possible somehow to bypass previous installation location and install sp3 automaticly?

Thanks,

JaCro

Hi again,

I found full-file of office XP SP3 (OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe) and MS on their site wrote that this version of service pack doesn't ask for cd. I tried to install it but update asks again for CD. :(

This is too frustrating... Please, help me...

Try this:

1. Extract OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe with /c /t:c:\path there files will be extracted. You need just MAINSP3ff.MSP, so other files may be deleted.

OfficeXpSp3-kb832671-fullfile-enu.exe /c /t:c:\temp\oxpsp3

2. Make batch file something like that:

@echo off
echo Installing Microsoft Office XP SP3
Msiexec /p MAINSP3ff.MSP /qn /L*v C:\sp3Log.txt
exit

P.S. In this case both files (that msp and batch) must be in the same folder.

Hi laura,

i tried your method but as you can see in log file of installation that I attached, update failed. In the bottom of the file, you can see that update required source location of previous installation. I think that office sp3 wants to check files of original location. Is it possible to avoid this procedures during sp3 updates?

Also, it's very strange that sp3 looks for cd even if sp3 file is full-file...

This is big problem for me because we need to update around 1000 pcs with this update.

Thanks for your post...

I had a lot of problems with this as well today, Office XP SP3 installation from the web kept asking me for the original CD. I did insert it many times but still didn't work. :realmad: So I did try a lot of websites and forums and all recommended to try to an msiexec procedure, but this still requires the CD.

Amazingly the answer is on microsofts web page. Pls check it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/updates/oxpclientup.htm

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832671#4

Anyway, just go to this web page and download the full file, at the bottom which doesn't require the original CD. I tried this and and worked just fine. :w00t:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

download de full version, 60MB
