MS Autoupdate notfication won't go away

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently had a PC crash so I had to reintall XP home edition. Of course when you do that you also have to reapply all the critical updates. I've done this. However, the little MS update taskbar icon won't go away. It keeps telling me I need to download and install this critical patch, but I've aleady installed it. No matter how many times and I download and install, it keeps showing telling me I need the patch.

How do I correct this?

Have you installed Service Pack 2? If you have, I have found that if you haven't enabled Auto update then the little red shield appears. Is it that or not?

 Hmm.

What happens if you disable Autoupdate?

Sorry cougar, can't help you there. I've reached my knowledge limit
