I can't seem to find anything on this.

I'm after the location of where all the New menu items when you right-click are located. Are they registry entries or files of some kind?

I know TweakUI gets a list from somewhere, does anyone know where?

Edit: Nevermind. Using TweakUI and Regsnap reveals they're all over the registry. Have to remove them by hand.

That's it, RaveRod. Since I already dug out my cleaner, here it is:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ais\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bfc\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.8\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\Access.Application.10\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.8\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.psd\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xls\Excel.Sheet.8\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip\CompressedFolder\ShellNew]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mpp\MSProject.Project.9\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.6\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb\Access.Application.11\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pub\Publisher.Document.11\ShellNew]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.vsd\Visio.Drawing.11\ShellNew]

I have on link to that file to run it, and another link to edit it, and just click on it when a program puts back my modification. The worst offender id Adobe Photoshop, which adds the entry everytime it is run.

You could set an advanced permission on the ShellNew key to deny 'Set Value'. That would prevent programs from changing things. Just leave the Shellnew Key devoid of any values and set your permissions.

Hooooo ok I see what you want...

XP doesn't support hotkeys.

You'll need another software for this. I never found a good free one though...

It's convenient on W2K when I need a temporary text file, just press Alt-F, W, T inside explorer, then I got a scrapbook to copy-and-paste. It's done within a second, no need to hold my mouse still and cautiously click text file.
