Denney Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Heya guys. I'm having some problems installing Messenger Plus! v3.01.94 silently. The original filename is "MsgPlus-301.exe" and when running the command:MsgPlus-301.exe /silentinstallnosponsorit runs fine BUT if I rename the file to "MSGPLUS.EXE" (or anything else for that matter) and run the command:MSGPLUS.EXE /silentinstallnosponsorI get an "access denied" error. Is anyone else having this problem?
evilvoice Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 yea, I get that too, I would check their download mirrors for MsgPlus Setup.exe (I think you can rename this one, not sure...but thats what I named it). I think I got a "please download again, corrupt" error.
Denney Posted August 15, 2004 Author Posted August 15, 2004 Yeah. That's what I get but I can install it fine if I leave the filename. If I rename it to anything else, I get the I/O Error.
evilvoice Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 yea, download from simtel mirror to get a better named one...I hate having version numbers in my setup files
Denney Posted August 16, 2004 Author Posted August 16, 2004 @evilvoice: Can you remember which mirror you downloaded from? I've tried 4 now and all of them have the same problem.
evilvoice Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 well, what I meant was that you cant rename the file, but for a better named one (msgplus setup.exe) download from the mirror...or are they all named msgplus-301? AFAICT they coded something in the install that if you change the name, it breaks the setup.
Denney Posted August 16, 2004 Author Posted August 16, 2004 Quote from Patchou on the Messenger Plus! forums:Arf... I know why this is happening.... stupid installer... that will be fixed in the next released version, you can count on it.Edit: Patchou also stated that the installer won't work if you name the exe the following (anything else should work):msgplus.exemsgplus1.exemsgplus2.exe
oioldman Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Out of curiosity, Why would you want to rename the .exe used for installation?
Denney Posted August 16, 2004 Author Posted August 16, 2004 I rename it so I can place an updated version onto another CD and have it copy over the top of the one on the original CD during setup.
oioldman Posted August 16, 2004 Posted August 16, 2004 Kinda makes sense now, having read reply. Cheers
