August 1, 200422 yr I have a Windows NT 4 Server Enterprise box I got my hands on and I would like to get my connection going through that and use it as a router.Does Enterprise have any built in router software or will I need to get a 3rd Party piece of software?If I need a 3rd Party program what is the best out there?And also what is the best firewall to use on a router?
August 1, 200422 yr Yes. Make sure you have at least two nics. When you configure TCP/IP for either card the Use IP Routing check box becomes clickable. Here's a brief how-to: http://www.winnetmag.com/Windows/Articles/...465/pg/2/2.html.
August 1, 200422 yr Two NICs in the one box?Yes, two NICs in one box.One is connected to your broadband connection and the other is connected to your LAN connection. That way every thing coming in goes through the router(NT box) and then out to the LAN.However, I think it would be better if you just dumped NT and put something like Clarkconnnect on that box for routing.
August 2, 200422 yr Author Ah ok, my ISP only provided a little USB modem...So I couldn't plug it into a NIC if I did have another one, would I still need one?And at first glance IPCop looks good... think I'll try that ^^

August 3, 200422 yr Author Ok thanks :-)Is NT 4 Server Enterprise the best OS to use?Would I be better with a linux distro or something(would have to be easy to learn how to use and pick up, and work on a network where all other PCs are Windows XP)?
