Wai_Wai Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Help! Login account suddenly disappearAll my accounts disappeared.I shutted it down and restarted my computer. The problem still prevailed.I can still enter into Windows XP. Files and folders are still there. But I just can't login using these accounts. How can I re-enable my accounts and allow me to login properly? The details of the problem:================************* "control userpasswords2"One day, I ran "control userpasswords2". I did the following in the client computer:- changed all the accounts passwords- deleted one logon account called XXX (Also I deleted all its [sub-]folders at C:/documentsand settings/XXX.)- changed accounts' permission types (eg user, administrator etc.). When I changed it, anerror message showed like the following (I hadn't recorded the message):=== The logon account cannot be found. Cannot change the permission type ===****************** Virus infectionAnother day, I could still log-on as usual.I tried to do ICS between my host and client computer.I got some problems relating to ICS - my client computer couldn't access to SOME websites. One suggested me to turn off all firewalls (including Microsoft ICF and third-party) in host and client computer. I did so.Then my host computer got infected. (NB: My client computer didn't get any virusinfection message)In my host computer, the virus infection message was:The fileD:\WINDOWS\system32\TFTP3424is infected with the W32.Spybot.Worm virus.Unable to repair this file. The fileD:\WINDOWS\system32\TFTP3424is infected with the W32.Spybot.Worm virus.Access to the file was denied.I immediately re-enabled all firewalls (including Microsoft ICF and third-party) in host and client computer. In host computer, I ran a virus scan in safe mode. No virus was found.I ran a free online virus scan. No virus was found.I search for TFTP3424 (and TFTP*.*), no such a file was found. So weird!!********* login account corrupted?!The day after another, when I woke up from hibernation in the client computer. All my accounts disappeared.I shutted it down and restarted my computer. The problem still prevailed.I had to press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" twice. Then a original login screen was shown. I entered my user name and password. It could log in but with some problems:- its permission type became "guest" (ie having very limited power to do with computer)- I could only set my user account at "Control panel | User/Login account"- I could still access to my own file (in which it had set as private)- my files are still there at docments and settings\{user name} and My Documents foldersThe login access seems to be corrupt. How to do?How can I re-enable my accounts and allow me to login properly?Help!
SiMoNsAyS Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 i've got some ideas of what i could start doing but i don't know if they will work...1.- we must log on HD XP as an administrator... we can try to boot from DOS (safe mode with command line) and add a registry setting to show the administrator account on windows logon (hope it isn't damaged). with this command line "REGEDIT /S filename.reg" (without quotes) add this setting to your registry (you know copy the text to notepad and save it like filename.reg on a guest account):Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Mostrar la cuenta de administrador[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList]"Administrador"=dword:00000001NOTE: "Administrador" it's the equivalent to "Administrator" in my language, may be yours could be different2.- if all goes well we can log in like an administrator, the next step it's to copy the "Documents and Settings" folder to anywhere with easy access.3.- now that you are an admin create a new account with admin priviledges with the same username as before for example "Wai_Wai".4.- reboot from pure DOS, WinPE, Knoppix (linux livecd) or something that don't mess with the HD XP and overwrite your "Documents and Settings\Wai_Wai" with the easy location one.5.- try to logon like Wai_Wai and check if it works, if not i don't know what more to try... to restore the old accounts (but you still are an administrator with access to all the files... ).please tell me if all of the above helped in someway
