yes, check your cables... I had similar problems but all were resolved after buying new ones.

how did you get to a conclusion its h.d problem?

@Sparky1, a utility from maxtor, Powermax. works from DOS and i don't like that type of applications, they are not fully compatible with SATA drives.

@Marsden i don't want to hand down M$. i'm still looking for a 3rd party app
