Hi,

My WinXP Pro cd came from MS with SP1 installed on it. So, as I am setting up an unattended CD, I see that I am missing some hotfixes.

I dont really want to mess with the "factory installed" svcpack.inf file as it works just fine as is.

My "factory installed" svcpack.inf file is called "SVCPACK.IN_" & "SVCPACK.DL_".

The code from "SVCPACK.IN_" is: (not sure what all the jiberish is)

MSCF    î       ,               H    ‰         õ*kr  svcpack.inf ±«»Ôž ‰ [€€? 0?~      1   [Version]
Signature="$Windows NT$"

[SetupData]
CatalogSubDir="i386\hotfixes"

[ProductCatalogsToInstall]

[SetupHotfixesToRun]

There is no "I386\hotfixes" folder, so maybe I can just delete the "SVCPACK.IN_" file? Then I could make my own?

Since I am currently installing WMP9 & DirectX9 through my start.cmd file, it occured to me that maybe i could install all the hotfixes through this file & leave my svcpack.inf file alone.

Any ideas on what makes the most sense?

look here:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=8741

here is info on what svcpack.inf file is good for:

http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/installhotfixes.htm

look here: http://unattended.msfn.org for more help on your unattended journey :)

NOTE: u extract the contents of the files in x:\i386 to look @ them

EX_ = file with a .exe inside

IN_ = file with an inf inside

DL_ = file with a dll inside

so on & so fourth, all files here will open in an archiving program OR via commandline

type: expand /? for a list of switches in command prompt

good luck :rolleyes:

MCT - thanks for replying.

I did look there & I cant figure out if messing with my "SVCPACK.IN_" file on my winxp pro cd will mess with the already integrated SP1 installation?

That page says"Save this as svcpack.inf in C:\XPCD\I386\. You must delete svcpack.in_ in the I386 directory otherwise Windows XP Setup will not use the svcpack.inf file. "

Will that mess with SP1?

i dont think it will, what u should do, is copy ALL contents from your original CD Do NOT mod the original CD

to your cd drive, inside a folder XPCD (or another 1 u specify) & use it for your alterations, so u wont wreck your original cd

delete the file as it says, & make another file called svcpack.inf and put it in your i386 directory , use vmware to test your cd after making an ISO, download the trial from there site http://vmware.com i think

good luck
